On Saturday the 20th of May our team had an opportunity to take part in the international space conference 2nd Near Space which took place in the Centre of Modernity “Mill of Knowledge” in Torun. The whole event was a fabulous opportunity to meet enthusiasts of space from all around the world as well as to hear numerous lectures in which the speakers shared their experience and knowledge. Also, we have explored the very interesting “Mill of Knowledge”. The first lecture of Dorota Budyń was a summary of the DREAM (DRilling Experiment for Asteroid Mining). Later, Emilia Węgrzyn and Aleksander Masłowski talked about their journey “from the balloon section of the Student’s Astronaut Club of the BULMA experiment in the REXUS/BEXUS programme to stars”. The last presentation were the thoughts of Adam Dąbrowski on conducting an astronomical observatory at school.
Next, we witnessed the start of a stratospheric mission. After an hour break Mads Wilson told us about his experience with the Copenhagen Suborbital spaceships. It was his presentation that made the greatest impression on us. After the lunch break a couple more presentation took place. They concerned issues such as the CanSat competition, stratospheric experiments, REXUS/BEXUS programme and even space law. The whole conference was a great way of expanding our knowledge and discovering innovative ways of solving problems that, sooner or later, everyone who works in the field of astronautics has to face. We are very thankful to Maciej and Marzena Jakimiec for inviting us.
